When it comes to family cars, the requirements are almost always the same: “7 seats, good ground clearance, connectivity, and good fuel economy.” Legacy manufacturers have fulfilled these needs with their “default” options, such as the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Montero.
The problem? Prices of these mid-size SUVs have skyrocketed. You can’t buy any of them for under 1.5 million pesos. If you try to push your budget, you’re left with the base model — hardly worth the price.

Hello, Good-Looking
Available in Carmenere red, stylish black, and pearl white, the JAC JS8 Pro is a bold and striking SUV. The front end is dominated by a massive light bar, aggressive DRLs, and a fascia that demands attention. But the rear is where it truly shines, balancing just the right amount of angles. It’s like a cross between a Subaru and a Lexus — sporty yet elegant.
The side profile, with black cladding and two-tone 19-inch wheels, adds a rugged charm. There are no bad angles on the JAC JS8 Pro.
Interior and Tech That Don’t Compromise
List your must-haves in a modern SUV, and chances are the JAC JS8 Pro has them.
Convenience: Wireless charging, fast-charging USB ports, plentiful cupholders.
Entertainment: Dual 12.3-inch touchscreens with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Ambience: Ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof.
One standout feature? The third-row seats. My reaction: “Wow, I fit?” I’m not exactly supermodel-sized (more like Super Bowl-sized), yet I comfortably fit in the third row. Bonus points for the dedicated A/C vents and controls back there — something you don’t see often in this segment.
Other highlights include generous legroom, plush leather seats, electric adjustments for both front seats, an automatic tailgate, and a multifunction steering wheel with cruise control. The trunk is equally impressive, starting at 418 liters and expanding to a cavernous 2,153 liters with the seats folded flat.
Safety tech is abundant too, with features like Auto Hold, ABS, EBD, Hill Start Assist, TPMS, a brake override system, Blind Spot Detection, and Lane Change Assist.
But How Does It Drive?
The JAC JS8 Pro’s ride is firm — a bit more suspension travel to cushion bumps would have been welcome. Handling is as expected for a mid-size SUV. While there’s some body roll, the car maintains its grip, and you never feel like you’re about to tip over. It’s stable and predictable. NVH could use an upgrade as well, but we’re just nitpicking at this point.
Don’t Forget the Engine
Powered by a 1.5L direct-injection engine, the JAC JS8 Pro delivers 182 HP and 300 Nm of torque. It’s fast enough for quick getaways from a standstill and confidently handles uphill climbs, even with a full load. Fuel consumption? Pretty solid. In mixed driving conditions, including holiday traffic and highways, we averaged 12 km/L.
The Room, Baby, The Room
The space inside the JAC JS8 Pro is impressive. Whether you’re in the front, second, or third row, the leather seats provide decent comfort. The interior design, with brushed aluminum accents, chrome highlights, and piano-black trims, adds a touch of refinement without being overdone.
Practicality is also a strong point. The flat-folding seats offer a spacious cargo area, while features like a 12V socket, a hidden compartment, and a retractable tonneau cover make it versatile for everyday needs.

JAC JS8 Pro: An Underrated Gem
With all the great stuff that the JAC JS8 Pro has, we’re puzzled how it hasn’t made a bigger splash in other countries, perhaps it’s because JAC has just launched here in the country and the consumer car lineup of JAC is also pretty new. Maybe it needs a hybrid? Maybe it just needs some hype.
Either way, we’re confident that many folks would find the JAC JS8 Pro to be worth the buy once you take everything in.
