VinFast’s Total Cost of Ownership Calculator is Now Available Online

Fast-rising BEV brand VinFast today announced that its web-based Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Calculator is now available on its website, giving customers an interactive tool to compare the long-term financial impact of driving an EV versus a traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle.

The TCO Calculator is designed to demonstrate the potential economic benefits of battery electric vehicles compared with their gasoline-powered counterparts. It addresses a key hurdle in local EV adoption by turning broad industry claims about lower running costs into concrete, personalized estimates for Filipino consumers.

With volatile fuel prices continuing to affect household transport budgets, the tool encourages buyers to look beyond vehicle specifications and upfront purchase prices, focusing instead on the total cost of ownership over several years.

By factoring in driving habits, fuel or electricity expenses, monthly financing payments, and routine maintenance, the TCO Calculator allows consumers to simulate their potential financial outlook before making a purchase.

Available directly on VinFast’s website, users simply select one of the brand’s vehicle models, enter their average monthly mileage, choose a battery ownership option, and set their expected ownership duration. Within seconds, the web-based tool generates comparative estimates, contrasting the lifetime costs of a VinFast EV against comparable ICE vehicles.

Turn Savings Into Real-World Milestones

Rather than asking potential buyers to compare vehicle prices alone, VinFast’s TCO Calculator provides a clearer view of cumulative ownership costs over several years.

On the website, users enter basic information such as their preferred VinFast model, monthly mileage, battery ownership option, and expected ownership period. The calculator then generates an estimated monthly payment, monthly energy cost, and overall ownership projection.

For example, a buyer in the Philippines selecting a VinFast VF 7 Plus with a battery subscription, driving 2,000 kilometers per month over five years, would see an estimated total cost of ownership of ₱1,884,890. Under the same conditions, the calculator estimates that a comparable ICE vehicle could cost ₱3,156,240 over the same period.

That represents a potential difference of ₱1,271,350, or roughly 40 percent.

For buyers, savings of this scale could mean more room in the household budget, additional capital for investments or a business, or simply less exposure to fluctuating fuel prices. While actual ownership costs will vary depending on driving habits and other factors, the calculator gives consumers a more personalized way to understand the potential long-term financial difference.

Driven by Local Realities

The launch of the localized tool comes at a time when the cost of mobility remains a major concern for Filipino households.

A recent consumer study by Agile Data Solutions Inc. found that one in six Filipinos is actively considering an EV or hybrid vehicle as rising transport and fuel costs continue to challenge household budgets. With gasoline prices intermittently threatening the ₱100-per-liter mark in recent weeks, the everyday cost of mobility has become an increasingly important factor in vehicle purchase decisions.

Based on 2026 local estimates, standard electricity rates hover around ₱12 per kWh, compared with petrol prices of around ₱65 per liter. For higher-mileage drivers in particular, the lower cost of electricity can potentially help offset the higher upfront cost of an EV over time.

The local sentiment also mirrors a broader global trend. Deloitte’s 2026 Global Automotive Consumer Study found that 52 percent of U.S. consumers considering an EV cited lower fuel costs as a primary motivation, while 40 percent identified overall vehicle cost and maintenance as major concerns.

Together, these findings highlight a common theme: whether in the Philippines or overseas, the desire to reduce long-term mobility expenses continues to be a major factor driving interest in electrified vehicles.

For emerging automakers like VinFast — the No. 1 BEV brand in the Philippines from March to June 2026, according to CAMPI-TMA data — the TCO Calculator gives consumers another way to look beyond specifications and upfront pricing when considering an EV.

Instead of simply asking consumers to accept claims of lower ownership costs, VinFast is providing a tool that allows them to test different scenarios based on their own driving habits and expected ownership period.

More than just a comparison tool, the TCO Calculator can serve as a practical financial planning aid for prospective buyers. By making potential long-term costs and savings easier to visualize and personalize, VinFast aims to help Filipino drivers make more informed decisions as they consider the transition to electric mobility.
